Sunday Service

Sunday Service

Sunday worship service begins at 10:30 am and is immediately followed by a time of fellowship in Fellowship Hall up a few steps at the front of the sanctuary.

We love visitors and new members! You’ll meet friendly people as you walk into our beautiful 19th century sanctuary constructed by some of the same craftsmen who built the famous mansions on Bellevue Avenue.

More importantly, you’ll see that Jesus is the true foundation of this congregation that loves and worships God. Come join us in discovering Christ’s love for us as we all grow in our relationship with Him.

Our worship service celebrates the glory of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit through teachings based on scripture, hymns, prayers and music. Once a month we receive communion together.

If you’ve never been to a Presbyterian church before, that’s OK! You’ll discover how our worship resonates across centuries, cultures and churches as we all seek His loving purpose for our modern lives.

On March 30th, 2025, Sean preached from Acts 27.

Paul is carted off on a boat to Rome where he hopes to appeal his case. While out at sea, the ship is hit by a storm. Even in the midst of such circumstances, Paul give’s God trust and thanks. In the midst of our own storms, let’s also give God our trust and thanks.

A couple things on the sermon from Pastor Sean:

New Testament scholar NT Wright says this in his biography of Paul: “I think Luke intended this [Paul giving advice to the Centurion and ship crew] to be a positive portrait of Paul. That is not how it strikes me. He comes across as bossy.” What do you think? How does Paul strike you in this passage? I think he is speaking from a supernatural confidence in God, but yes, probably his somewhat domineering personality is indeed coming through in this account. This just reminds us that God’s servants, even his apostles, did not always perfectly demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit.

Parking

Parking is available on the streets around the church. Handicapped spaces are available on Everett and Calvert Streets and do not require a formal handicap license.

Directions

4 Everett Street, Newport, RI. We are very easy to find. The church faces Broadway Street, a main artery through downtown Newport, and is at the intersection of Everett and Broadway. There’s a Civil War memorial statue of a Union soldier in front of the church, and Equality Park is across the street.

What About Kids?

We have a staffed nursery!  All caretakers adhere to regulations to make sure your little ones are cared for.  Children are always welcome to attend worship service with the family.   Normally, about fifteen minutes into the worship service the pastor  or lay leader call the children forward for a special “Children’s Message”, after which the children either return to sit with their families or leave the sanctuary to go to the nursery.   Find Out More Here.

Sunday School

Sunday School starts at 9:15 am. March 9th through April 13th is a Lenten Series for our Adult Sunday School which meets in the Hometime Room. Our Big Questions series will resume April 27th.
