Sunday Service

Sunday Service

Sunday worship service begins at 10:30 am and is immediately followed by a time of fellowship in Fellowship Hall up a few steps at the front of the sanctuary.

We love visitors and new members! You’ll meet friendly people as you walk into our beautiful 19th century sanctuary constructed by some of the same craftsmen who built the famous mansions on Bellevue Avenue.

More importantly, you’ll see that Jesus is the true foundation of this congregation that loves and worships God. Come join us in discovering Christ’s love for us as we all grow in our relationship with Him.

Our worship service celebrates the glory of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit through teachings based on scripture, hymns, prayers and music. Once a month we receive communion together.

If you’ve never been to a Presbyterian church before, that’s OK! You’ll discover how our worship resonates across centuries, cultures and churches as we all seek His loving purpose for our modern lives.

On Sunday, May 11th, 2025, Pastor Sean preached from Lev. 12.

Pastor Sean’s sermon showed how God the Father values moms, God the Son was the only perfect child, and God the Spirit makes us whole and free from sin. Let us all, therefore (moms or not!) rest in Him.

A couple things on the sermon from Pastor Sean:

First, I didn’t have time to get into it, but the strange laws in this passage help mothers by giving them a time to rest and recuperate – the rules weren’t just some burdensome things meant to be an imposition on new mothers, but there was an element of rest embedded in the commands themselves. Second, for those wondering about the preaching of ‘adult’ content in sermons, see Melissa Kruger’s article on the Gospel Coalition’s website entitled “Sex in the Sermon” – she helpfully points out why preaching strange passages like Lev. 12 are good for churches today.

Parking

Parking is available on the streets around the church and in the small unused lot between the church and Cumberland Farms on Broadway. Accessible parking spaces are available in the church parking lot on the Everett Street side of the church.

Directions

4 Everett Street, Newport, RI. We are very easy to find. The church faces Broadway Street, a main artery through downtown Newport, and is at the intersection of Everett and Broadway. There is a Civil War memorial statue of a Union soldier in front of the church, and Equality Park is across the street.

What About Kids?

We have a staffed nursery! All caretakers adhere to regulations to make sure your little ones are cared for. Children are always welcome to attend worship service with the family. Normally, about fifteen minutes into the worship service, the pastor or lay leader calls the children forward for a special “Children’s Message”, after which the children either return to sit with their families or leave the sanctuary to go to the nursery.   Find Out More Here.

Sunday School

Sunday School starts at 9:15 am. Our Adult Sunday School, which meets in the Hometime Room, is resuming the “Big Questions” series April 27th. We would love to have you join us!                                                                                            To find out more, click here.
