Angel Zhu
Director of Music Ministries
Angel was born and raised in Baoding, China, and she has always loved music. She started playing the keyboard when she was six and switched to the piano at age 11. When she was 19 she went to college at Hebei Normal University in Hebei Province, China. She majored in music education with a focus on Piano. Angel met her husband, Brian, during her fourth year when he was teaching at the University. After she graduated, she worked in Beijing for a year teaching private and group piano lessons. She then moved to Toulouse, France, and studied for three years to get her masters degree in Piano.
Angel, Brian, and their daughters Juno and Eden moved to Rhode Island from Singapore in 2011. They wanted to come to the United States to grow roots for their family. They chose Rhode Island because Brian‘s mother, Jean Conwell, lives here. Jean is a member of the church and she started showing Angel around.
Angel joined the choir, asked if she could play the piano for the church, and started accompanying the choir on the piano. She has been a music assistant at the church for the last six years. During that time, she was introduced to many new styles of American church music. Angel learned quickly and gained the skills for her new position.
Angel is the mother of four wonderful children: Juno (11), Eden (9), Zelda (6), Orion (2). Angel says that she feels honored to serve God through this congregation. Angel shares these words from Hans Christian Andersen: “where words fail, music speaks”.
